WELCOME

We are Team 4004, the M.A.R.S. (Muskegon Area Robotics Students) Rovers. We are a FIRST Robotics Team based in Muskegon, Michigan. Each year we are given the parameters for a game to be played with our robot and we have six weeks to design, build and program the robot to play the game with others from around the state. But in those six weeks we do that and so much more.

From Debbie Eskew:
I am an exchange student coordinator and need a host family for a boy that loves robotics. His favorite passtime is computer programing and working with computer boards. A great asset to the MARS team. I need a family asap to get him here in time for school to start. contact me at 231 828-4809. call or text or email: eskewyl5721@aol.com

MARS Rovers 4004

The M.A.R.S. Rovers went to see Hart&Cooley Inc and ORKA Automation yesterday in Grand Rapids as part of our ongoing efforts to expose the students to different industries and to spread the word about FIRST Robotics.

At Hart&Cooley the team gave a presentation that Anthony had arranged with his colleagues and superiors. I think it is fair to say that M.A.R.S. impressed the heck out of everyone in attendance. People kept saying ‘but you’re only in high school and you’re doing all this…’. What impressed me the most was the level of professionalism that our students conducted themselves with and how well they spoke in a situation that was not rehearsed prior.

At ORKA Automation, their vendors and customers that arrended their open house came by to visit with the team. Once again everyone was greatly impressed by the level of knowledge and professionalism that the students exhibited. Many were in awe at what these kids can do.

To say that I’m proud beyond measure is an understatement. An almost unfortunate side effect that came to light yesterday was the fact that the kids were surprised by the level of interest that the ‘adults’ were giving them. I think because they have been exposed to the FIRST Robotics’ high level of knowledge and professionalism, they have lost sight of just how much they have excelled beyond their peers. We impressed on them that what they do and what they learn at M.A.R.S. is not what normal kids learn in school. But for once being ‘abnormal’ is not an adversity but a huge benefit. Your futures are bright, put on some shades and hold on tight because you are about to go on a ride that has been supercharged by your commitment to this program and to yourself.

Thank you to Anthony Uriarte, Jamie Page, Tom Keenan, and Kim Irvine for helping to make yesterday possible.
